Couscous!
Today is Friday (well not anymore) in Rabat and it was a very full day for me. Here are the top 5 events of my day!
5. Couscous! Friday is the holy day in Islam and part of the tradition in Morocco is to have a lunch of couscous with your family! I had some for dinner (as opposed to lunch) at my host family tonight.
4. Flowy clothes - I went shopping today and got some breathable cotton tops. A great option in this climate that’s harder to find at home especially when crop tops and scoop necks are on trend right now.
3. Accomplished Language Class and End of Volunteering - Today was my last language class! I really felt like I was making strides. I know had I another week, I’d really be forming sentences and understanding way more! I learned conjugation in present, past and future and quite a few words and phrases! Szween bzef! (very nice!) Just me patting myself on the back! Lol
2. Shopping in the souk. My coordinator is so thoughtful and hospitable! It’s been great learning from someone who knows his city well, loves people and genuinely wants you to have a great time. Added bonus he knows friendly people everywhere and of course I don’t have to worry about getting lost in the Medina! 😅
1. Couscous! I started today off the way I usually do! Breakfast then preschool. My lesson started well. I followed the lead of Madam and based my lesson on identifying the letter a word starts with. We did a drawing of our hands and colored after, all “h is for hand.” Then after kids are the lunches their parents packed, everyone had couscous together even me! Such a cool experience seeing the students all eating together. And Madam is a superb teacher and truly loves her students. I’d want my kids to be in her class!
