The night in 58 Songs!

We were on our way to the ball, in tons of traffic, as children are begging in our windows in a wealthy area of the city near the Sheraton hotel where the ball will be held. I’m sporting a look that doesn’t quite feel like me but I was encouraged to put on more jewelry (pearls) and do an up-do; I felt a bit matronly, but I decided to embrace the look and took a selfie in the car. 

I’d never been to a marine ball before but it was interesting. The first hour or so was all about the history of the marines and the traditional ceremonies. There was a presentation of colors followed by the singing of the American National Anthem. Then a cake was brought out by the marines which was cut with a marine’s sword. The oldest and youngest marine present were recognized and perhaps were first to partake in the cake. After the ceremonies there were speeches. The US ambassador to Bangladesh and a brigadier who was called in specifically for the night, spoke about the partnership between Bangladesh in the United States and the history of the Marine Ball. I know I likely missed a few more details, but soon after we were called table-by-table to get food at the buffet! It was delicious! 

But it was after the food was served, and the DJ started up that the party began. So it wasn’t all military marches (which I happen to love actually, especially the Sousa ones) and elevator music. I didn’t have a bag on me so was holding my phone all night and decided to make use of it by listing every song they played! Not as tedious as it sounds, but I figured if you take a scan you’d get a feel for the night and how the DJ had us spastically dancing from one genre to the next  LOL. Guess he was trying to cater to everyone! Also, I’m gonna tell you right now some of these songs below are just lyrics, likely include misspellings, and will not always include the artist’s name. Also, I may have missed some, but this was is at least 95%.
